CeMAP Module 3: Case Studies
What's actually tested, topic by topic.
What is CeMAP Module 3 about?
CeMAP Module 3 (Case Studies) is different in style from Modules 1 and 2 — instead of testing knowledge directly, it presents realistic client case studies and asks you to apply everything from the first two modules to the scenario.
What topics are covered in CeMAP Module 3?
Four topics: Affordability Case Studies, Protection Case Studies, Vulnerable Clients, and Complex Scenarios.
What are affordability case studies in CeMAP Module 3?
Working through realistic client scenarios to assess how much someone can responsibly borrow — income, outgoings, credit commitments, and the affordability rules a firm must apply. These questions test whether you can apply Module 1 and 2 knowledge to a real situation, not just recall it.
What are protection case studies in CeMAP Module 3?
Identifying the right protection needs for a client's circumstances — life cover, income protection, critical illness cover — based on their family situation, dependents and existing arrangements.
What does 'vulnerable clients' cover in CeMAP Module 3?
Recognising vulnerability (which isn't always obvious) and adjusting advice and communication accordingly, in line with the FCA's guidance on treating vulnerable customers fairly.
What are complex scenarios in CeMAP Module 3?
Multi-factor cases that combine several considerations at once — self-employment, joint applications, adverse credit, later-life lending — where there often isn't a single obviously-right answer and you need to weigh priorities.
Should I take CeMAP Module 3 before Modules 1 and 2?
No — Module 3 builds directly on Modules 1 and 2, so it's usually easiest to sit last. Solid regulation and product knowledge makes the case studies much more manageable.
